The Meadow for Babies

What babies need most is a calm soothing environment with people they can trust and who care and nurture them.

And that is precisely what we give them.

We get to really know our babies very well and we appreciate their quirky little ways. With gentleness and genuine warmth, we do everything we can to make their day enjoyable and comfortable. We follow each baby's own individual routine and our day is led by what they need -- not the other way around.

Most of our day together is spent together on the floor - made cosy by our under-floor heating - where we sing, make faces, babble, giggle and play the day away. We enjoy a variety of well-considered activities that engage our babies and stretch their learning and development. Heuristic play baskets are a favourite resource, with a variety of interesting resources gathered from far and wide over years, giving our babies the opportunity to explore materials using all their senses. We favour this kind of open-ended resource to encourage creativity in preference to the plastic toys so often found in Nurseries.

We go outside daily in all but the coldest weather because fresh air is so important and beneficial for little minds and bodies.

Indoors, we have plenty of room for stretching out and practising our crawling, rolling, toddling and -- our favourite -- dancing! We use our spaces to get messy -- to stick our hands in water and a variety of lovely gooey textured materials to help the children to gain confidence and to enjoy the sense of touch
