The Brook for 3 – 5's
The Brook is a place where every single day brings a new adventure. Here, the children's imaginations are the starting point.
Enthusiastic, energetic and caring staff take inspiration from the children and head off on a daily exploration, encouraging them to solve challenges along the way, developing new skills and confidence in their own abilities.
We believe that children should have opportunities for learning placed in front of them but that we must follow their lead. So, if they are all about space today, we are all about space!
You can see here (to the right) The International Space Station we made with the children. It even glows in the dark! To follow on from this small world play, we put sponges on our wellies to see how it feels to walk on the moon. Arousing music (think The Apprentice and Lunar Landings...) got us all on our feet. Then we read a book about Aliens coming to tea and we wrote an invitation for them to come to Afternoon Tea with us. We made a huge space ship out of boxes and crates and flew to Mars, the Moon and back to Earth, passing many landmarks including Lyme Park, counting the number of stars along the way before arriving back at Nursery just in time for dinner where we ate Moon Rock Cakes we made earlier in the day. PHEW!
Starting with the children's interests, we created an entire day with activities that touch all the Areas of Learning as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage. But with Blue Grass Magic, they didn't even notice how much they were learning - they were too busy having FUN!
Just a typical day, Blue Grass style!
